When it comes to rethinking energy, AIRE, the Arlington Initiative to Rethink Energy, is a great resource to learn about different ways you can conserve energy use in your home, save money in your wallet, and help save our local environment. Winter is a time when it is easy to forget about energy saving ideas as we try to stay warm, but there is plenty you can do in these cold months. According to the latest information on the AIRE website, our residential buildings are responsible for 26% of the greenhouse gas emissions in Arlington County. Each decision we make when it comes to heating our homes or changing a light bulb affects our environment. On average, Americans spend almost $2,000 annually on energy use. Up to $500 of those dollars are wasted on outdated appliances and air leaks. But there are easy, low to no cost measures you can take to start saving money right away, and help the environment as well.
